We now own 640 private acres surrounded on four sides by BLM public lands. It is located in Lassen County and is 3 miles off of US 395 and just 75 miles across Smoke Creek valley from Gerlach. It is called Sage Hen Pass. There is water on the property and all around it. S I expect we will have water also. It is elevated and secluded from the highway and is ideal for us, the burning man community. There is even an additional nearby section of property nearby that would allow us to grow if we decide to acquire it as well. See the map for more information and be sure to e-mail any questions. If we own the property outright, we can enjoy the benefits of private property rights. There is a long standing understanding handed down to us in our legal system that by owning rural property, most bureaucratic obstacles are avoided because the property owners are generally allowed to do anything on own private property as long as no laws are broken and no complaint is made. Movie stars enjoy this kind of privacy on private property. Another way to explain it is to think of a hunting club. As long as the members hunt on private property and the law receives no complaints, and as long as no one gets shot, then no one cares how many members the hunting club has nor how often they visit the hunting club.
“WE” will own the 640 acres in the second paragraph above. The role of the current structure is simply to facilitate the acquisition and transfer of this special piece of property into a nonprofit controlled by the members and owned by the members. Permaburn is going to be big and priceless. There will be no one person or one organization owning it. Therefore the entirety of Permaburn will eventually become a non-profit.
When thousands of artist are allowed to create art on their own property and keep what they create and continue to grow more emboldened each year; when 640 organized theme camps composed of 100 members each are surrounded by other artists and theme camps, and they too are allowed to grow each year, can you even imagine what they can do?
It is here, it is now, and it is cheap. It is likely that $200 per member will cover the property purchase to join this most progressive new city. We can do this. Keep looking for updated material and e-mail us today.
